Depression

Depression, also referred to as clinical depression is a very common disorder that affects your mood and causes a constant feeling of sadness and a loss of interest in everything. Depression affects the way you feel and act and can lead to a variety of problems, both emotional and physical. Depression is treated as a serious illness that is caused by the changes in brain chemistry. Other contributing factors are genetics (if depression runs in the family, then you are more prone to it), life events (something that has disturbed or highly affected your life, eg. A death, finances, divorce etc.) can trigger it, childhood abuse (events that occurred in your childhood, such as, any form of abuse, loss of a parent, trauma etc.) play a role, heavy drinking or substance abuse, life-long illness and pain, insomnia and anxiety.

SYMPTOMS OF DEPRESSION

There are lots of symptoms associated with depression which include, tiredness, feeling guilty or helpless or worthless and have very low self-esteem, loss of interest in everything to do with day-to-day life, digestive problems, suicidal thoughts as well as attempting, overeating as a way to self-soothe, insomnia, trouble thinking clearly, remembering things and making decisions and constant empty feelings as well as moodiness and restlessness.
